So are there any Jam’s going on? I’m struggling with things to draw right now and before I start just doing random unsolicited fan art, I’m hoping for some Jams. I would put on one myself but they are never met with much success.

So Now that I’m back on DA I’ve tried to hit the ground running. I’ve posted a few new pieces of work, I’ve joined my first Tournament since being MIA, I’ve posted a Journal, caught up on some favorites and reconnected with the art world. For the most part the drive to draw has been slowly returning, the juices are flowing and the inspiration bubbling so I thought the next logical step would be a JAM! YAY JAMS! Nothing beats back the dragon of artist’s block more than a good ol’ Art Jam.

I’ve been trying to think of something I haven’t seen done, and with me having been gone for nearly a year I’m sure I’ve missed some things but there’s nothing that can be done about that. SO the November Art Jam will be OC Familiars. The idea is to come up with a New OC (or a current OC) that is paired with an Animal or multiple animals. Think in terms Beast Master, Sheena the Jungle Queen, Ka-Zar of the Savage Land, Tarzan, Thundar the Barbarian, He-man. Have fun with it try some thing new and different. The inspiration for this was my stumbling upon ‘s OC Sara Bennett the Forest Girl and her giant bear Saqamaw
It sounds a little cheesy I know but I think it might just be cool, plus it will give those of us who hesitate to draw animals an excuse to try. If this is completely lame to every one let me know and we’ll see if we came brain storm something better but I think if people give it a chance it could be cool.

Well I’ve been MIA for nearly a year, disappeared into the ether, wondering around the world dealing with all the things the gods have place in front of me and around me. I can simply say its been a interesting year, and thru it I haven’t had the time to do much drawing, I haven’t had the money to re-sign my internet and I haven’t had a ton of inspiration.

Let me say thanks to all you who made sure I wasn’t dead, I’m not. Thanks to all those who have commented, faved or Watched me over the last year. I have over 2,000 messages and nearly 4,000 deviations which means I won’t be replying much of them. If there’s something you need me to know or I just have to see let me know. I’m going to try and get in here and really play some catch up.

What follows is long winded, few free to skip to the last paragraph.

I’m getting married in the spring, My Gf and I have finally decided to get hitched and have been trying to plan a Wedding. And I say “we” finally decided but the truth is she’s had her mind made up about the whole business for a long while now. We’ve been together nearly 4 and half years (Living together in glorious sin for about 2 of those). We getting married June 20th 2010, it’s an out door wedding in the mountains so hopefully I wont be cooking your grits in the sun in a blasted tux

I’m still working toward a career in law informant. I’m talking classes with the police recruitment department and still keeping the exercise going strong. I’ll be doing the PT testing mid December with the Written and Oral tests to follow about two weeks after. I’m feel pretty good about all this really, its scary how few people make it thru but it wouldn’t be worth it if it was easy right?

Over the last year my condo flooded not once but twice. Water Loss… this is a term I’ve heard a lot. “Water Loss” is a term used by plumbers, insurance companies and restoration techs to describe your house and every thing in it being submerged in 2 to 3 inches of water. The pipe in the master bath decided to burst and flood my condo. Mind you the home was empty of sentient beings, we all having to work and what not, and the water poured out of the wall for many fantastic hours unobserved and unhindered. I came home to find two soaked and frightened dogs and four rather disgruntled cats hiding on top of book shelves or floating helplessly atop some of my more buoyant property. The just for kicks it did it a second time. It was about a 50% loss in total and we’re still not back to normal. We still have no carpet (living on concert).

One of our animals has been ill (Apollo) has been having a lot of problems lately, namely the Urinary Track kind of problems. This is not too uncommon with young male cats in general and they will usually work them selves better with some special food and some meds. Over the last year we have shelled out nearly 4,000 dollars on this cat. He was on Kitty Valium, which is meant to calm him a bit and make him a bit more pliable for medication reasons. The Valium only manages to sedate the back half of the cat while leaving the rest of him to Trip the light fantastic. Yep we now have a cat with all the energy, attention span, imagination, reasoning and randomness of a Robin Williams on Meth with the reflexes, depth perception, steadiness and bodily control of a paraplegic alcoholic. As fun as that sounds I assure you it gets old in about 13 seconds. He had to have pretty invasive surgery. In simplest terms they shortened and straightened the length and shape of the cat’s urethra to reduce the chance of blockage and inflammation… this is basically a SEX CHANGE for my cat. They removed his boy bits in order to achieve the aforementioned shortening and straightening. Now the poor guy is already neutered so he hasn’t much to lose if you know what I mean but now he’s now essentially a post op Transgendered girl cat.

I got pneumonia again, but I knew what it was this time and soon as I felt it start I was at the doctors begging for drugs. It knocked me down for a bit but I bounced back pretty fast. It slowed down my physical conditioning but I’m working harder and harder to make up the time lost.

But now I’m back, hopefully DA will spark my inner muse, I’ll hop in to some jams as soon as they open up. I look forward to doing some fan art of all the OC’s that I have missed so much. I long for peer review from like minded artist and creative inspiration from brilliant colorful people. So yeah that’s it in a nut shell, you’ll all be seeing more of me. I’ll be posting some art over the next couple of days, so stay tuned.

Where I’ve Been…
As I’m sure some of you have noticed I’ve been MIA for a little bit, hell I didn’t even know the results of the Got Beef Tournament until a few moments ago. The little internet usage I’m allowed at my office has been severely neutered, a case of one bad apple spoiling the bunch if you know what I mean. Every thing is totally and utterly blocked, not even News sites are allowed now. So until I get the internet hooked up in my place, which should be soon enough, I’m forced back into the library only this time I have little time to get here. So my presence here on DA will be little more than that of an apparition or mirage, I’ll try to make sure I comment when I can and fav whenever possible. So until then… best of luck and happy drawing every body.

Where I’m Going…
So I’ve been doing some soul searching the last few months or so and I have come to the realization that I don’t want to be a nameless empty suit in a drab confining cubical for the rest of my life. The mindless tedium and unfulfilling work is weighing me down too much now and days. I’ve lost that spark… that zeal and passion I once had. Sure I’ve still got some sizzle, just enough to get me moving before its too late and I die in one of these offices staring at a beige wall with a poster of a stressed out cat telling me to “hang in there”. I Want more, I need more, the chance to feel pride in one’s work, respect for one’s self. There’s no pride or respect in foreclosing on a 82 year old widow… NONE.

Ever since I was about 9 or 10 the only thing I wanted to do when I grew up was draw comics and now that I’m 25 and as grown as any one man could get, I’ve come to realize that’s just not in the cards. Sure I still love to draw but the comic field is a monster to break into and with artist a thousand times more gifted (some here on DA fall into that category) my “talent” is not going to pay the bills, I’ve accepted that. The problem was that, until recently, I had no idea what else to think about, no other possibilities imagined, and so I’ve sat here and becoming just as stagnate as the coffee in the break room. But after what I can only call a boredom educed epiphany (being unemployed and turning 25 will do that to ya) and some deep one on one chat time with my love, I’ve decided what I want in life.

I’m going to join the Aurora Police Department. So I’m putting a plan together and by this time next year a badge and patrol car instead of tie and desk. I have to get myself into shape in order to pass the PT Test for the academy; working a desk for as long as I have you tend to get some “Office Expansion” around the waistline. So starting this week I’m hitting the gym again, 3 times a week for 40 minutes than twice on the weekend for 95 minutes, plus cutting back on some of the richer foods I do so love. The Aurora Police department is the second largest in Colorado yet the top ranked and toughest trained. It’s a 26 week paramilitary training course with a 60% drop out rate. To put that into perspective the Denver police is the largest but is only a 18 week, less intensive, training program… its not going to be easy, but that’s kinda the point. I’m putting it out there, cause if it stays with me, just in my head, the drive to reach it dimes, and that’s not what I want. I’m not getting any young and the prospects of marriage and children have moved from distant uncertainties to pending proposals… so as they say its time to shit or get off the pot.

I’ve just got done reading The Last Days of Krypton by Kevin J. Anderson a 467 page novel of the last and most turbulent year of mighty Krypton, home world of the Man of Steel himself. For those of you who don’t know me personally let me just tell you that I’m not a big “reader”, and no I’m not slow or thick I just don’t care for it. In fact this makes only 6 books that I’ve read cover to cover in all my life (Wicked, Hitchhiker’s Guide, I rant There for I am, Napalm and Silly Putty, Goose bump’s Why I’m afraid of Bees; In that order). Usually about a quarter of the way into a book I lose interest and move to something else or the case of School assigned books a would read the first quarter and the last and look the middle half up online, the number of books I’ve picked up and put down without finishing is pretty high. So that speaks pretty high for this book. It helps that the subject matter is something I’m a huge fan of and Kevin Anderson writes in a pretty descriptive manner, which helps my painfully overactive imagination.

The books tells the story of Krypton thru the trials and tribulations of its brightest mind, Jor-El, father of Superman/ Clark Kent/ Kal- El. The story is an amalgam of many of the popular ideas and themes of Krypton we’ve seen/ read over the last 60 or so years, from Brainiac, Zod, the bottled city of Kandor and the pending disaster that will eventually cause the destruction of the entire planet. But even knowing full well the final outcome Anderson keeps you guessing and with the addition of an in depth look into Kryptain politics, daily life and history he gives us something we’ve never really seen before. Plus there’s little nuggets thru out the book that pay homage to popular DC mythos, little Easter eggs of geekly goodness.

This isn’t a master piece of literary genius by no means, it’s somewhat formulaic, repetitive and at times maybe a bit dry. But for anyone who considers themselves a Fan of Superman, the DC universe or maybe you just want to read something that doesn’t involve elves, secret agents or wizards then this is a must read.

Now I must find a new book to read on the train… any ideas?
